My friend Charlene of Charlene Chronicles invited me to an event last night. A blogger event. For Spa Week.
Its been awhile since I’ve been to a blogger event. They aren’t usually my cup of tea. I’m not big into chit chat. Or meeting people. Or selling my “brand.”. But I am into Charlene. And I haven’t seen her in a long time. So I figured, “what the hell?” and strong-armed my husband into getting home early to watch the kids so I could go.
Then, Charlene told me she couldn’t swing it. And there was no fucking way I was going to an event called Hot Mom Spa Night by myself.
Or was there?
I was suddenly invaded by a body snatcher who was all happy go lucky about it. “What’s the big goddamm deal?” this body snatcher said to me. “There will be free booze!”
So, I put on heels, hopped on the train and hit Hot Mom Spa Night at Spa Merge, a plus one minus the one.
First half hour: I drank a lot of water. I put my name on a list for a mani. I tried to get a massage slot. I had some cheese cubes. I hid inside my twitter app. The house music and I became one.
Second half hour: I actually had a conversation. With real people: Esti and Audrey from Primetimeparenting. We talked about Queens and kosher Whole Foods-like supermarkets. And the insanity the is kid bedtime. I got my mani. My eyebrows were hijacked by the waxing artist.
Third half hour: The Spa Week gals and Spa Merge raffled it up. One chick won a $50 spa gift card. And I won…
A $450 SPA DAY AT SPA MERGE IN MANHATTAN!!! WOOT!!!
No. I’m not shitting you. (Go on. Click on the link. It’s sick. SICK!)
Then, I talked to the lovely Rachel Ferrucci and Jeannine Heavens about philanthropy and working mom stuff.
When I left that joint, I was walking on air.
Thank you, Charlene. Thank you, body snatcher. And thank you Hot Mom Spa Night, Spa Merge, Stephanie, Michelle, and all the ladies that organized the event. I felt like I was on vacation last night.
Luckily, I’m back in my comfort zone today - late for work because I had my kindergartener’s curriculum meeting to attend. And I chased that with a session of de-boogering my three year old’s nose. At least my eyebrows look awesome.

What a great night! Your post actually makes me wish I was there, and I rarely say – or think – that.
it was. just goes to show…
Kami, it was so nice to meet! It was a great night! I can’t wait to see you again! Enjoy your day of pampering, I am so jealous!
Great to meet you too Jeannine!
What?? A $450 spa day is totally worth 30 minutes of uncomfortable water sipping. And a mani and eyebrow waxing (on top of your already recently-shampooed self)?? You must be one hot mama. Get yourself to a soccer game to show all those ladies you can hang with the best of them.
My feet are in such incredibly poor shape I can’t even go get a pedi. Two MISSING toenails–thank you, triathlon training. A huge wound from tripping while playing tennis in the driveway barefoot with son #2 last night didn’t help matters, either. sigh. Send some spa vibes my way during your day of pampering…and enjoy!
I will Annie. I promise. But that’s what you get for training for a triathlon. What the hell is wrong with you?
Hey, Great post!
BTW, I am that “one chick” who won the $50 gift card….LOL! Congrats on winning the $450 spa day! yay! well deserved!
Congrats to you too Gina! Enjoy!
kami, i’ve been loving your blog. not sure how i stumbled on it but you are super entertaining, even for the non-mothers. congrats on the spa win!
thanks Tiff! I love hearing that!
Was bummed about not going and now even more bummed I couldn’t swing it & be able to hang with you. NYC hotels just too pricey, but so glad you went since everyone should know you. The NYC blogger scene should know about the fabulous you (even though you had bushy-brows early on, but then again, your legs are worse based on your 2010 blogher post nomination-LOL). Michelle, Stephanie & Rachel rock and I will have to follow your new buds. Lets hang soon & will start my NYC fund so when you invite me to your New York blogging events, I’ll be there! (if I can sleep on your couch. Wink) seriously, though: miss you, heart you & can’t wait to see you again.
It was a great time and it was great to meet you!
Sounds SO nice, yay for the body snatcher invasion.
Ooooh…SO happy for you, you deserve it. So bummed for me, because none of the spas anywhere near me are participating in the spa discount week. Bummer. That’s what I get for not living in a big city. Cheers!
