Today’s Girl Talk Thursday topic is Dream Travel Destination(s).
I’ve been a lot of places and seen a lot of shit. Travel is way up there on my list of priorities. My husband even created a Travel Fund for us and secretly squirrels away money in it. You know, so we, as in all four of us, including the two small people who follow me around all the time and who refer to me as “mommy,” can go to Mexico in December a la FoodieMommy.
No biggie, right? I mean, everyone goes to Mexico, right? And I’m super excited about Mexico. Except for the part about the water that causes explosive diarrhea. And the dirt. (I hear they don’t believe in grass there…)
We all deserve to go on vacations. Parents work too fucking hard not to get a break and a change of pace every once in a while. Even just for a weekend. This year, we all up and went to Rome. Yeah. It Rocked! Last summer, I dragged my tired ass all the way to Thailand. It was sheer awesomeness! And back when my oldest was just 16 months old, we trekked to Chile. It was way, way cool!
Yes, my friends, this is how we do it, do it.
But If I had my druthers, I think my dream travel destination would be somewhere totally luxurious. Somewhere sunny, where someone would bring frozen alcoholic beverages to me at my lounge chair. Somewhere that has a big beautiful pool, great restaurants, and features both Sinatra Sings Sinatra AND those creepy Cirque du Soleil acrobat/clowns. Somewhere I could land myself a decent hooker.
VEGAS, BABY!!!!
Yup. I think my dream vacation would land me straight in the Bellagio. Enjoying all that Alan Thicke insists Vegas has to offer. Probably by myself. My husband wouldn’t set foot in that palace of hedonism.
So, where would you go to get your dream vacation on? (Think big here, people.)

I've never been the most adventurous traveler. I have gone to some cool places, and there are many I would still like to visit. But at his point in my life, my dream vacation is probably something tropical, all-inclusive, and incredibly laid back. 100% relaxation. Aahhh.
I don't know if I will write to this prompt this week, not out of love, but out of time! But I hear you on the Vegas thing.
I was so excited to go to Israel…coming from Jordan, it was like a whole other world. Western, beautiful…we could sit on the beach in Tel Aviv and drink. I mean, seriously, what else in the world is better than drinking legally on a beach?
Anyway, a month into my stay there, I got dysentary.
DYSENTARY! Isn't that a made up disease for the Oregon Trail or something?
Needless to say, I am no longer excited to go anywhere after spending 14 days chained to a toilet.
My dream vacation? Target.
Top on my personal list right now is Paris because for me it symbolizes the ideal romantic getaway. This fantasy obviously involves leaving the children behind – this is crucial to the fantasy aspect of it. I would pair my Parisian vacation with a trip to Italy so I could go to Lake Como and some cities – doesn't even matter which ones. And if this is a real fantasy, I would then go to Greece and Turkey for more sightseeing and beach-bumming.
I'm leaving Saturday for the Caymans. One husband an no children..That about sums it up.
Ooooh, Thailand was so awesome! We went to mostly out of the way places – like the ones where they think white people are a myth. Yeah, that was fun… Mexico is really cool, just keep your head on straight. We lived across the border for several years and would go over to Juarez rather often.
Vegas – oh man, the memories. My mom used to do the National Finals Rodeo there every year – on my birthday. For the first ten years of my life I thought all kids celebrated their birthdays at Circus Circus and Treasure Island…
Give me a shout when you're at the Bellagio — I'll meet you for a drink.
We're, gulp, moving to Vegas next month.
LOL I was at the Bellagio a few years ago and it was awesome. You just gotta embrace the cheesiness and all the adults gambling away their social security. Also, they serve the best poolside pina coladas I've ever had in my life. You need to go! Now!
Ok, so the Bellagio is a go then. One of these days…(Tara, I'll totally let you know!)
Ps you guys have been amazIng places! (sorry about the dysentery, Sarah…)
We've only left the country once since DD was born – to visit family in Barbados… it was lovely. I'm itching to travel again – maybe once #2 is born and gets a few months under his/her tiny belt. I'd love to go back to Israel and really travel around (last time we were there was during the war w/ Lebanon in '06), but I'm also itching for Europe. And Guatemala. And Chile. I hear the coast of Croatia is amazing, and I'm always happy to visit family in Italy. I must confess, though, there is something about the family-style-all-inclusive-on-an-island that totally calls to me from time to time, even though that's not my travel style… like Vegas, but with a beach! Damn. Now you've got me thinking about all of this, and I'm not going farther than Waltham any time soon!
Waltham is totally nice, right?!
Where would I go? Straight back to Venice. If I don't get my Italian fix soon (it's been five years) I might die.
In the meantime, I'd settle for the Venetian in Vegas. Or San Francisco. Or, who are we kidding here, I wouldn't turn down an all-expenses paid trip somewhere tropical, relaxing, and all-inclusive!
